This morning enjoy your first day in Porto with a tour of the city, visiting the major attractions including; Cathedral of Porto, Train Station of São Bento Station, Lello’s Library, Historic Center (UNESCO World Heritage Site), Port Wine Cellar Visit with Wine tasting and a six bridge cruise in the Douro River aboard one of the traditional “Barco Rabelo”. The remainder of your day is at your leisure, stroll through the historic district, stop in for lunch at one of the many restaurants and cafes on the banks of the Douro River, and enjoy some shopping in “Rua St. Catarina”, the main shopping district in Porto. Enjoy the beautiful architecture and history of Porto at your own pace. Discover Porto’s neighborhoods with an optional yellow bus tour of the city, or visit one of Porto’s most famous coffee houses, Café Majestic… This Oporto landmark is an essential stop in the city. It is known throughout Portugal, and is also listed among Europe's top historical coffeehouses (as well as one of the world's top 10 most beautiful cafés). It was born with the name "Elite," which was soon changed to "Majestic." Its beautiful decoration justifies the second name: mirrors, cherubs, chandeliers, marble, and wood. Visit the 18th century winery estate, Quinta do Vallado, your home for the next three days. (B)
Wake up to the stunning sunrise that bathes the entire valley with warmth. After a homemade breakfast, with ingridients from the estate’s garden, you will have an opportunity to explore the Douro River in a vintage boat, that will take you from the picturesque village of Pinhão to River Tua, a tributary of the Douro River. This is the most unexplored area of the Douro Valley, beautiful untouched nature, where the river is flanked by cliffs that reach 676 meters high, over 2,000 feet and granite blocks with hundreds of feet in diameter. This afternoon return to Pinhão, and discover the Pinhão’ s Railway Station is considered (probably) the most beautiful in the whole Portugal. Its exterior walls are decorated with Tile Panels depicting the Port Wine theme. Finish your day with a private tour and wine tasting at Quinta do Bonfim, property of the Symington family. (B) (L)
After a delightful breakfast enjoy yourself in a bike tour through the vineyards. You will and explore more about the grapes, varieties and know more about the that make this wine so special after you enjoy a traditional picnic overlooking the majestic Douro Valley, we will explore this UNESCO World Heritage Area with a Jeep tour. You will become familiar with many of the traditions, and culture of the local population. An expert guided tour will give our group privileged access to picturesque viewpoints across the family owned vineyards we will visit.(B)
A private transfer will take you to Lisbon, Portugal’s vibrant capital. Your journey will cross the interior of Portugal, dotted with historic villages, mountain slopes of leafy vegetation. A Traditional lunch featuring regional cruising will delight your taste buds, before arriving in Lisbon and checking in to your 4-star Hotel, Bessa Hotel Liberdade, located in the 5th Ave of Lisbon, the Avenida de Liberdade. Pickup approximately 9:00 AM via S. Jorge Castle where you will begin your walking tour, visiting the Cathedral, S. Francis Church and “Baixa” area of Lisbon, where you will enjoy the local shops, restaurants and cafes. Lunch is served in a traditional restaurant, with breathtaking views of Lisbon. After a traditional lunch, we visit the Belem area of Lisbon, where you will find Lisbon’s iconic monuments and enjoy the typical “bolo de belem” A pastry that is now world famous and considered one of Lisbon’s calling card. Later this afternoon, we will enjoy a short boat cruise on the Tejo River. In the evening, enjoy a local Fado Show and Dinner in a typical “Fado” House, in one of Lisbon’s historic districts. (B)(L)
